From Octopus Ceviche to Spicy Margaritas, Mexico was a brilliant treat for the taste buds. Below I have listed some of my favourite eats when we were in Cancun July 2022 with family, street food to high end restaurants, it has it all. Here are some of our favourite eateries we discovered whilst we were there.

After nearly 24 hours of travelling we dumped our bags, had a quick change and went straight outside to see where we could get dinner because we were STARVING. On our first night we soon realised we landed a winner, our hotel was directly across from the La Isla shopping centre in the Zona Hotelera in Cancun. When we ventured over we found lots of great eateries we wanted to try from Johnny Rockets to high end Thai and Mexican restaurants.

Lighthouse Cancun
After walking around for a bit we settled on a seafood restaurant right on the water, Lighthouse Cancun. We were seated at a brilliant table and our waiter was extremely attentive, Taylor ordered Calamari followed by coconut shrimp and I had Oysters followed by the catch of the day.
The portions were large and the prices were reasonable considering it was in the middle of a tourist hotspot. The food itself was very good and you could tell it was super fresh, we enjoyed a relaxing meal watching the sunset and to top it off there was a man walking up and down the boardwalk playing the saxophone - immaculate vibes.
In all honestly I am a bit of a sun junkie so most of this trip was spent lounging about the pool which had a swim up bar that served food so we ate there so our lunch nearly everyday consisted of either nachos, tacos or pizza which I am definitely not complaining about. The portions were always a good size and kept us going until 8/9 when we went out for dinner.

Johnny Rockets
I had never been here before but my boyfriend and his brother had been and they knew exactly what they wanted, so I just asked for the same - a Smokehouse Double and a Milkshake. The decor in Johnny Rockets is like a 1950s diner and has a very limited menu but what they do they do very well, we were sat at the bar area which meant everything was prepared infront of us. The burgers were brilliant and very filling and the milkshakes were so good, probably my favourite part!
We went here 3 times throughout the holiday!

Senor Frogs
Ok so I loved this, everything about it. We initially went one night for a drink after walking downtown, thinking it was just a normal bar we got a surprise when we went in. It has a brilliant atmosphere, it is very interactive and they encourage you to join in with everything and the drinks were very good so we decided to book it for another night.
When we returned a couple of nights later we were there for dinner, it has fantastic Mexican food and even better drinks they had a great selection of frozen cocktails, there was 2 options and we went for the larger which came in a yard cup! Once we had finished our food we stayed all night, the music gets louder and ranges from 80s to RNB to house/dance music to suit everyone. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that is going even if you are not going for food it is a great night regardless.
Thai Cancun
Located in La Isla, this picturesque Thai and Indian restaurant features private cabana-like tables at various heights over the water, there were 7 of us but it would be perfect for a date night as it has a lovely candle-lit ambience. The menu has a spice rating next to each dish which is handy and with it being Thai and Indian dishes there is something for everyone.
The cocktails we had were beautifully presented with flowers and the food was lovely and very big portions, but the best part of the restaurant was definitely the location, the sunset was beautiful.
Hooters

We went here a couple of times for lunch because it is in the La Isla shopping centre and looks onto the water. We got a couple of different things but by far my favourite being the boneless chicken wings they were probably the best wings I have ever had! Taylor loved it because you could order beer by the pitcher and there was great , as there were 7 of us everyone got something different and everyone enjoyed it.
Porfirio's

I have saved the best for last, this was my absolute favourite restaurant we were at when we first arrived we were seated outside in a table outlooking the water and the sunset it was very picturesque. The service is quick and efficient, and the food and drink was incredible. There was a DJ playing great remixes and there was a Mariachi band that came around the tables for a short while.
We had Octopus, Langoustines, Chicken Milanese and Steak, everything was cooked to perfection, we were amazed by the tableside service there is a bar cart and they make you cocktails in front of you as well as cooking your steak to your liking right next to your table.

While we were half way through our main there was was a deep roll of thunder and the heavens opened, the waitstaff sprang into action and quickly moved the tables back and rolled down the weather blinds, it was still very warm made even warmer with the blinds down so they turned the fans on which made it perfect. At the end of the meal we were stuffed and we were just going to have a few more drinks for dessert but Taylor's eye caught the Churros, we got a portion to share and it came on the cutest, serving tray that looked like a mini churro cart with 4 sauces, absolutely delicious. 10/10.
